What a GREAT 2017 GBROC Weekend!
Hekili believe that both the GBROC Half and GBROC IRON were a huge success. We thank all competitors for participating – we had many paddlers from the Queensland coast and some who even travelled from Sydney. Conditions this year were markedly different from 2016. The winds were waves were up which made for fast racing and cooler conditions.
The GBROC Half was held on Saturday 3 June and was open to OC6 crews only. This race provided an opportunity for newer (and some long term) paddlers to have a long distance down-winder under their belt. The 25km event from Cairns to Yorkeys Knob attracted 14 craft with 84 participants. Have a look at the times, conditions and smiling faces of competitors on the following links.

The GBROC IRON 45km Yorkeys Knob to Port Douglas race was held on Sunday 4 June. Well done to the two paddles who backed up from the race on Saturday to finish in medal positions (Ralph and Tania you are both legends!). This down-winder event attracted 98 participants with 72 craft on the water, including 4 x OC6, 3 x OC2, 32 x OC1, 24 x Ski’s and 9 other craft comprising SUP, Kayak and double Skis. The awesome results and pics are in the following links.
